Wet itching
The nature of dampness is to move downward, so the main areas of dampness and itching are “lower limbs, scrotum, vulva and toe joints”. The rash is mainly manifested by papules, blisters, erosions and other damp and rotten manifestations. When the skin is itchy and scratched, more tissue fluid will overflow, and the more itchy it is, the more itchy it is, and the more itchy it is, the more rotten it is, and it is often difficult to heal. If dampness is accompanied by heat evil, “the skin will be red and slightly swollen”, and the pain will be more severe than the itching; if it is accompanied by cold evil, “the skin will be thickened, like cow collar skin, dark red or purple in color”, and the itching will be more severe than the pain.

Heat itching
The itching is not in a specific place, and the rash is mainly “red papules and erythema”, most of which are diffusely distributed, and some merge into one piece. The patient feels burning and itching, like a needle prick, and when the epidermis is scratched, blood oozes out and forms blood scabs. Occasionally, it can also rot and form pus, forming furuncles.
Dryness and itching
Traditional Chinese medicine divides the energy in the universe or in the body into two categories, yin and yang. For example, yang represents day and yin represents night, yang represents fire and yin represents water, etc. If the yin energy is damaged, the body will become dry.
Dryness and itching often occur between autumn and winter, or in people over 50, or after suffering from a febrile disease (such as high fever due to influenza). This can cause internal damage to the yin blood or yin deficiency and blood deficiency, which can generate wind and dryness, and the skin loses nutrients. Symptoms include dry and itchy skin, which often comes and goes. After an episodic attack, “chaff-like scales can be seen falling off.”
Itch
Some elderly people have itchy skin all over their body in winter, but no rash can be seen. The characteristic is “whole body itching, like worms crawling on the skin”, which is mainly caused by insufficient qi, blood, yin and yang. Traditional Chinese medicine calls the energy in the body “qi”. The transformation of blood depends on the action of qi, and the generation of qi also depends on the nourishment of blood. If there is blood deficiency, the skin will be dry and the itching will be more severe at night; if there is qi deficiency, the itching will be aggravated when the temperature changes or the seasons change; if there is yang deficiency, the itching will occur mostly in late autumn and early winter, and it is more common in middle-aged and elderly men; if there is yin deficiency, the itching will continue, the skin will be dry and not moisturized, and more bran-like scales will fall off after scratching.
