WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that in order to control the global diabetes epidemic, countries must take immediate action. First, policies that support healthy diet and physical exercise must be formulated. Second, and most importantly, health systems that provide prevention, early detection and treatment are needed.
World Diabetes Day
Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. This leads to high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia).

In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to designate the existing World Diabetes Day on November 14 as a United Nations day. The resolution pointed out that “multilateral efforts are urgently needed to promote and improve people’s health and provide access to treatment and health education.”
The theme of World Diabetes Day from 2024 to 2026 is “Diabetes and Health”, advocating that through proper diabetes care and health support, every diabetic patient has the opportunity to enjoy a healthy life.
