The scammer whose “new boyfriend” looks too familiar

In 2004, in Texas, 20-year-old Molly Daniels’ husband Clayton was about to go to jail on sexual assault charges, but suddenly there was news that he was burned to death in a car accident. A charred body wearing Clayton’s shoes and a baseball cap was found in the burned car, and Molly was ready to collect $110,000 in life insurance payouts. Not long after, she brought her family to meet her new boyfriend “Jake Gregg”, who dyed his hair black and looked very similar to Clayton. Investigators later discovered that the DNA test results of the remains in the car were not Clayton, but another woman. In the end, Molly admitted that she had dug up the body of an 81-year-old woman and placed it in the car to disguise the accident. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison and was released early in 2016; while Clayton, who was “still alive”, was sentenced to 30 years and is still serving his sentence.

Theodore Robert Wright III was a pilot who orchestrated an insurance fraud that spanned from Hawaii to the Gulf of Mexico. Wright and his accomplices would purchase high-priced items, insure them for more than the purchase price, and then deliberately burn, crash, or flood the property to collect insurance payouts. The property he destroyed included a 1966 Beechcraft Baron airplane, a 2008 Lamborghini, a 1971 Cessna 500 airplane, and a 1998 Hunter Passage yacht. In 2017, Wright pleaded guilty to arson and wire fraud, was sentenced to 65 months in prison, and was ordered to pay nearly a million dollars in restitution.
